Ready to go: Automating AGV and AMR – The mobile robots solution

The world of intralogistics is getting faster and faster – and with it the requirements surrounding efficiency, flexibility and integration. These days, automated intralogistics solutions don’t just need to be dynamic, they should also be quick to implement and adaptable to a wide variety of scenarios. This is particularly true for mobile robots such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMR), which are increasingly becoming the key element in modern logistics.
Whether it’s the shortage of skilled workers, increasing throughput requirements or complex processes – mobile robots are the key to meeting current and future challenges.

The answer: modular, open automation systems.

With ctrlX AUTOMATION, a holistic platform has been created that covers all the requirements surrounding modern mobile robots. It combines high-performance hardware, flexible software with specialized apps from the ROKIT Robotics Kit to create an individually configurable overall system – seamlessly integrated, easily scalable and ready for any intralogistics challenge.

All-in-one solution for mobile robots

A clever automation package for mobile robots

Against the background of a real factory environment with a fleet of automated guided vehicles, the hexagonal honeycombs are shown. The solution components of the Solution Set are shown in the honeycombs.

The “Mobile Robots” solution set from Bosch Rexroth is a complete, modular package for the rapid development and flexible control of autonomous guided vehicles (AGV) and autonomous mobile robots (AMR). Based on the high-performing ctrlX AUTOMATION module for automation, it combines control, drive, communication and specialized apps in one open solution. This enables mobile robots solutions to be easily integrated into modern intralogistics systems and individually adapted. In addition to safety-certified components to ensure reliable operation, the Mobile Robots solution with integrated features such as cloud-based fleet management offers just the flexibility that modern intralogistics needs.

Hardware and software components of the solution set

The control platform ctrlX CORE is shown in four different variants. Next to it is the app icon of the Linux-based operating system, which runs on the ctrlX CORE.

ctrlX CORE – Compact control system

The mobile robots are controlled by the compact and powerful control system ctrlX CORE. This integrates essential functions such as PLC, localization, navigation and motion control in one device, reducing the number of components.

ctrlX OS – Open operating system with ecosystem

The open operating system ctrlX OS with ecosystem allows AGV and AMR to be flexibly enhanced with apps. The portfolio includes Bosch Rexroth apps such as ctrlX MOTION, ctrlX IOT, ctrlX PLC, EtherCAT Master, but can also be expanded to include partner solutions in the form of hardware or software, e.g. from CODESYS, Canoncial, CEDALO. ctrlX OS also enables ROS 2 integration, web engineering and secure access to real-time data. In addition, ctrlX OS is “Secure by Design” and “Secure by Default,” and therefore prepared for the requirements of the CRA, certified according to IEC 62443-4-2 and can be flexibly upgraded with additional security functions.

The safety controller ctrlX SAFETY is shown in two different variants as well as three SAFETY I/Os.

ctrlX SAFETY – Safety at every level

The scalable safety concept ranges from secure I/O, to FSoE communication, through to independent safety control. ctrlX SAFETY meets the highest standards (IEC 62443, PL d) and reliably protects mobile robots solutions – with the minimum engineering workload.

Various ctrlX I/Os are shown in combination.

ctrlX I/O – Flexible integration of sensors and actuators

The modular I/O system ctrlX I/O allows the straightforward connection of sensors and actuators. It supports open communication standards such as EtherCAT and can be seamlessly integrated into existing mobile robots solutions.

The wheel drive for the Mobile Robots Solution Set is shown in combination with the lettering "Highly integrated whell drives".

Wheel Drive – Safe wheel drive unit for AGV and AMR

The ROKIT Robotics Kit offers a safety-certified, FSoE-based wheel drive unit that has been specially developed for mobile robots. It ensures precise, safe movement guidance and, thanks to its plug-and-drive design, can be easily integrated into automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

Navigator and Locator app for reliable navigation and positioning

With the Locator (marker-free localization) and the Navigator (VDA 5050-compliant navigation) from the ROKIT Robotics Kit, Bosch Rexroth offers high-performing apps for the reliable navigation and positioning of mobile robots. For precise, efficient intralogistics processes.
