High-speed precision beam cutting

Beam cutting is subject to growing challenges in terms of productivity as well as short setup and CNC interpolation times. The CNC system MTX from Bosch Rexroth is scalable and based on open standards. It is the ideal basis for machine manufacturers and users to meet these increasing demands.

Because Bosch Rexroth solutions are open in all directions, users have virtually unlimited combination options when it comes to beam cutting. For example, the MTX CNC system MTX with integrated PLC can be combined with the compact drive system ctrlX DRIVE to allow high-performance beam cutting. In conjunction with solutions from the automation toolkit ctrlX AUTOMATION, companies are future-proofed because they can use the latest developments from the world of automation as needed. MTX can be used in typical applications such as 2D laser cutting, plasma cutting or water jet cutting. ctrlX AUTOMATION provides, among other things, high-performance motion and technological functions geared to beam cutting.

The shopfloor-oriented, graphical programming system Lantek Expert Inside is available for the automatic generation of the required G-codes. The software can be conveniently operated via the operating panel of the CNC system MTX. Users profit from extensive functions like: import or creation of cutting contours, manually or automatically arranging the contours on the sheet, defining lead-in and lead-out strategies to generate and simulate CNC programs during processing automatically.

Highly dynamic CNC system meets compact drive

Beam cutting machines need to work quickly, precisely and reliably. As an extremely high-performance CNC system, MTX is ideal for these tasks. Whatever the application, it ensures highly dynamic machining with maximum productivity. After all, MTX combines high-performance multi-core processors with decentralized intelligent drive technology. As a result, very high cutting speeds and acceleration can be achieved along with great precision. Interpolation times of up to 0.25 ms in combination with the high-performance control and drive hardware are possible. Through the use of leapfrog or frog jump, splines, the high-performance CNC system and appropriate drive functions, users can beam-cut a reference metal sheet 10 to 15 percent more quickly than before.

The modular structure of the hardware and software allows the CNC platform to be integrated into many different machine concepts such as CNC machine tools and laser cutting machines. And whether it be beam cutting, combined laser/nibbling machines, multi-technology systems or bending cells – various usage scenarios are possible with just one control system. Integrated high-performance technology functions such as laser power control or height regulation make additional hardware unnecessary. This results in cost savings.

The CNC system MTX is ideal in combination with ctrlX SAFETY, the most responsive safety system, and ctrlX DRIVE, the world’s most compact modular drive system. And when it is combined with the high-performance, communication-capable control platform ctrlX CORE, the CNC system is perfect for IoT and AI applications. The use of just one engineering tool – the IndraWorks tool – makes engineering and commissioning much easier. As a result, the automation structure as well as the space required can be minimized and energy-saving requirements can be met. The system solution is scalable without breaks in the architecture and makes it possible to use solutions for virtual commissioning or digital twins for simulation. Engineering work and commissioning times can thus be reduced significantly.
