Duquesne, the general director of Normandise Pet Food in Vire, France, is standing in front of a large, silver-colored machine on the shopfloor. For 20 years, the machine has been packing and labeling pet food. Bosch Rexroth electronic drives ensure that the process runs automatically and smoothly. Intralogistics is changing. The company DAMBACH Lagersysteme is bringing the benefits of automation to the pallet warehouse. The DAMBACH COMPACT SHUTTLE allows pallets in high-bay warehouses to be stored and retrieved even more efficiently. It is controlled by the space-saving, high-performance ctrlX CORE and can thus play to its strengths in an ideal manner.

The development of machine learning as a subarea of artificial intelligence is rapid. Today, they enable systems to act autonomously and make decisions. Data-based services and applications are the future. Bosch Rexroth creates new freedom in hydraulics: With the H4U (Hydraulics for You) software platform and the ctrlX AUTOMATION toolkit. In the past, know-how relating to hydraulic control technology essentially focused on hardware. Now, it is available in apps. With H4U, you can use hydraulics functions the easy way – independently of the hardware. ctrlX AUTOMATION has thus gained hydraulics apps too. The effects of these functions include greater energy efficiency.

Bosch Rexroth has brought openness to automation with ctrlX AUTOMATION. A few months ago, it was time for the next evolutionary step: ctrlX OS. The Linux-based operating system for industry was previously reserved exclusively for the ctrlX CORE controller and has now been opened up to third-party suppliers. Our ctrlX developR and software architect Jochen Scheib was significantly involved in the development and is convinced of the innovation and radiance of this unique system on the market.

With its operating system ctrlX OS, Bosch Rexroth has caused a sensation within the market: The automation specialist has uncoupled the software from its own control hardware and made it available for the industrial environment. As a result, even competitors can use the Linux-based operating system for their own purposes and take on the role of a system and technology partner. WAGO has decided to go this route and is now helping to drive openness in automation as Bosch Rexroth's first partner in this area.

The automation of the future is not a closed space, but overcomes boundaries. This is also demonstrated by ctrlX OS. The Linux-based operating system for industry is another milestone in the ctrlX AUTOMATION world in terms of freedom and openness. Until now, ctrlX OS has been used exclusively on the universal and open ctrlX CORE control system. Now Bosch Rexroth has opened up the operating system to third-party suppliers and makes it available as a separate solution for real-time use in the industrial environment. This is unique in the market. The first technology partners are waiting in the wings. And ctrlX developR are already developing the next ideas.

"The ctrlX CORE has really amazed me. I can use it like a smartphone. Just install an app and it's a PLC, an HMI, a 3D viewer or much more. Within minutes, I can change the function by switching to another app. Genius!" says Rajvir Singh. He is a development engineer and automation expert. In his own e-learning school and as an influencer, Rajvir inspires thousands of people. In this interview, he gives us insight into his work and tells us why he is so enthusiastic about ctrlX AUTOMATION.

Bosch Rexroth is taking the next step as regards freedom and openness: In the past, the real-time-capable, Linux-based operating system was used exclusively on the control system ctrlX CORE. However, it is now available as a separate solution for industrial environments. ctrlX OS can be used on all levels – from the field level to the cloud, and on a range of different hardware.

Planar systems offer enormous potential for a variety of industry segments. With ctrlX FLOW^6D, Bosch Rexroth has raised contactless high-performance transport and positioning to a new level. Free-floating transport platforms, so-called movers, are moved on a horizontal, vertical or overhead working surface. Each mover acts in six degrees of freedom at high speed and with great precision – without any friction or pollution.

With ctrlX AUTOMATION, Bosch Rexroth has created a world of automation in which the specialist knowledge of companies from various domains is combined for the purpose of co-creation.  More than 60 third-party providers have already joined the partner world – most recently Salesforce and SICK.
